Honoring Self

I have never met a woman who is not excellent at shapeshifting.
We step into roles at a moment’s notice—mother, professional, healer, creative, caretaker, decision-maker… and more.
We know how to adjust. How to read a room. How to become what’s needed.
It’s part of being capable in a world that asks so much of us.
But there are moments—quiet ones—when something doesn’t quite sit right.
And a voice, almost easy to ignore, asks:
Is this right for me?Is this aligned with who I am?
This is where things change.
Because sometimes, the call is not to adapt—it’s to stop.
To listen to the voice within. The one only you can hear.
And then comes the harder question:
Can you walk away from something that doesn’t feel right…even when it’s reasonable?Even when it’s expected? Even when it’s well-intentioned?
I faced one of those moments recently.
And it reminded me of something I’ve come to see clearly:
The real cost is not in walking away. The real cost is in leaving yourself.
We don’t always notice it right away.
But every time we override what we know is true for us, something in us registers it.
Not choosing yourself has a name:
self-betrayal. And the body keeps track of that.
Self-honoring does something entirely different.
It builds: self-respect, inner steadiness and trust in your own voice
It sends a quiet but powerful message to your nervous system:
I will not abandon myself.
Endurance is often praised.
But enduring what goes against your inner knowing is not always strength.
Sometimes, it’s disconnection.
Choosing yourself is strength.
And the return is subtle—but profound:
A steadier nervous system.
A deeper sense of self-trust.
A quiet knowing you can rely on: I stayed with myself in that moment.
That changes everything.
If this resonates, you’re not alone in it.
